NEUPC Shortlisted for GO Awards 2018
Following on from being Highly Commended at the 2017 awards, NEUPC have been shortlisted again for the National Government Opportunities (GO) Excellence in Public Procurement Awards 2018/19.
We have been shortlisted for the GO Procurement Innovation / Initiative of the Year Award for work on the Major Construction Agreement, which was launched in August 2017. Our entry is a joint one on behalf of NEUPC and the Universities of Newcastle, Durham, Northumbria, Teesside and Sunderland.
‘The GO Procurement Innovation / Initiative of the Year Award brings creativity and imagination to the fore, celebrating procurement approaches that have made a genuine difference within the delivery of public services. The entry criteria are simple – the innovation or initiative can come from any quarter, and can be of any scale but it must be a genuine advance within public procurement, and must be compliant with existing procurement legislation’.
NEUPC, along with five of our members have created a truly collaborative tool that will deliver significant social and economic value to the entire North East.
In 2016 Newcastle, Durham, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside Universities recognised the shared benefits of an innovative framework that could deliver around £750m of capital projects to develop Campus Masterplans within the next ten years. Working with NEUPC, the Major Construction Framework is designed with Higher Education in mind, ensures contractors have a North East focus and provides a framework that can be replicated in other regions in the future.
Existing national frameworks that cover this area did not meet the contracting aspirations of the participating institutions, due to a lack of specific HE experience and mainly consisting of national contractors, with little or no focus on the North East.
This gave NEUPC the opportunity to create a truly collaborative tool that could deliver significant social and economic value to the entire North East.
The winners for the GO Awards will all be announced in the awards ceremony, taking place on 24th April at the Hilton Deansgate Hotel in Manchester.
