NE5 - An Insight to the Built Environment
In collaboration with the north east Universities and the appointed Consultants and Contractors from the Major Works and Professional Services Frameworks, NEUPC created an inspiring one-day event on the 4th July for 12-13-year olds to raise their awareness of the range of professions available in the Built Environment and the variety of career paths that can be taken to get into them.
Newcastle University hosted the first school engagement event at the Fredrick Douglass Centre, a newly built £35m learning and teaching centre, at the Newcastle Helix. The educational space welcomed 140 students representing 8 schools across the North-east.
The Built Environment School Engagement Day provides a platform to both students and staff to enhance their understanding on the local industry and how it is accessible through educational, vocational and employment routes. The collaborative approach between regional built environment companies and Higher Education institutions provides a chance to build and maintain the relationships with schools.
The series of twelve, interactive workshops, based on real-life tasks, were designed to encourage creative and logical thinking. The workshops took place in the range of seminar rooms, breakout spaces and the stunning 750-seat auditorium.
Durham and Teesside Universities are looking to replicate this successful, informative and engaging event over the next twelve months, targeting the whole north-east region.
More details on the event will be available shortly.
