2019: Wrap Up



As we wrap up this successful year below, we're pleased to tell you NEUPC have awarded 11 agreements in the past 12 months, covering a range of categories and available to our members. More details can be found on HE Contracts.

New Year, New Agreement


In January, we launched into the new year with the new NERARS agreement on National Education Recruitment Advertising and Resourcing Services. The new agreement offered innovative service options in addition to the traditional recruitment products and services. Find out more here





Expanding Team Marketing


In February, we expanded our Marketing team by welcoming Ahroob Jabbar, Marketing and Events Assistant. Ahroob works across the Marketing and Comms activities including; content creation for website and email campaigns, graphic design, and organising events.






Learn, Develop, Share


In March we welcomed over 100 delegates to our annual conference; Learn, Develop and Share. Reflecting on collaborative procurement and sharing best practices. With an engaging and motivational speaker, Paul McGee; 2019 got off to a great start.

CPD Courses. Free for members!


In April, we continued to deliver the newly introduced, CPD courses to over 175 delegates, funded by the NEUPC. Covering topics including EU Procurement Rules, Managing Risks and the Contract Law Fundamentals. We were pleased to hear the CPD sessions were well received by our members.

Welcome to our Board Member


In May, we were delighted to announce Iain Garfield, Director of Estates, Newcastle University as the newest NEUPC Board Member and we look forward to working with him.


A Responsible Procurement Policy Action Plan was also released in May. The summary document outlines progress made against the group’s terms of reference. Including how category groups embed sustainability within their category strategies and tender criteria.




Sustainability Question Bank and Staffing Updates


In June, NEUPC developed a Sustainability Question Bank, that will be released as a live tool to members. This toolkit includes general and category specific sustainability questions to select when sourcing suppliers.


As Amanda Snowdon, Marketing Manager left for maternity leave in June to prepare for her new arrival, we welcomed a new member of staff; Labs Category Manager, Matt Johnson. Matt joined NEUPC following 15 months working with the MoJ and the previous 8 years working with the NHS Supply Chain.




Supporting Career Development in the North East 


In July, we hosted a school engagement day on the careers and routes into the Built Environment. With over 140 children present across 8 schools. We are looking to replicate these events in 2020, providing the opportunity for suppliers and HE Institutions to build and maintain relationships with schools.

August Calls for Re-inventing the Office Space!


Suppliers on the Furniture framework kindly sponsored furniture for the NEUPC Office, located in the heart of Leeds. Suppliers installed some great statement pieces, like our comfortable booth in the waiting area, to practical tables in the meeting rooms, including sleek and adjustable laptop tables! Take a look next time you visit the office.

Launch of #COUP2019 and COUP Procurement Awards




September saw the launch of #COUP2019, the most awaited event of the year. Mission Ready: HE Procurement for the Next Generation – with a range of workshops and suppliers, along with networking evenings at the National Space Centre and key note speeches from Professor Brian Cox, Dr Suzie Imber and more – the conference did not disappoint! Each member institution also received two free places to the conference.


NEUPC were also pleased to introduce the COUP Procurement Awards 2019.

COUP – A Recap




Our New Chair & Our Official Charity


This year we also welcomed Andy Stephens, Director of Finance, Loughborough University as the Chair of NEUPC.


Macmillan is the official NEUPC Charity. This year we managed to raise just under £800 through raffle sales at COUP and our Macmillan coffee morning. But the team didn't stop there - NEUPC staff showed off their sporty & competitive spirits during the #SwimIt challenge – swimming the equivalent of the English Channel!!




Category Specific Events, A First for Professional Services



In November, we hosted the first Professional Services event on Legal Services, consisting of a mini supplier exhibition with workshops delivered by the experts. The event was a success with over 15 institutions represented on the day. Read about the event here.



We are looking to expand on our category specific events and are working towards a Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment Event and a Life Sciences event for 2020. If you would like to see similar events, please get in touch to express your interests.




2020 - A Preview


As we wrap up this extremely successful year for NEUPC and step into a new decade, we are pleased to tell you, along with new agreements, we have been working on some exciting projects for our members. 2020 will see the launch our brand-new website, with enhanced features; we will introduce the NEUPC webinar series for our members and suppliers and to kick off the new year we will be releasing our first issue for the NEUPC Sustainable Newsletter!
